Ally Wilson was a student 25 years ago when Amy Valens was the Open art teacher. Amy put out a call to the Open Classroom community: Come make a tile for a mural to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the program. Students like Ally made tiles on three different themes: textures, something about our school, or hands. Alumni came on a series of Saturdays to do the same thing. The mural has lost a couple of tiles, but mainly it has stood the test of time. Now it is Open art teacher Kristy Arroyo’s turn to shepherd the creation of a second section of the mural to be unveiled at the 50th Anniversary gathering May 14th!
